Story
The last 3 years I've made my birthday "secret" on Facebook. I began feeling annoyed at the overabundance of attention on one particular day, and judged it as insincere affection. This year I'm changing my tune in a drastic fashion and plan to make a HUGE FUSS about my birthday in 2017.
I am pushing to raise $1500 to go towards the massive crisis unfolding in the middle east, particularly in Iraq and Syria. In march of this year I traveled to Mosul with Partners Relief & Development on a thoroughly life changing adventure. We fed upwards of 15,000 over that time (Partners has fed MANY more before and since). There are millions of starving people being forced to live nomadic lives with their families, often unsure if they will make it one more day. I can't accurately describe or portray the horror of what I encountered.
The amazing thing is, we can actually do something about this. I am motivated and stirred to keep the pressure on myself to make sure this experience wasn't a memory that fades in the background. I am asking everyone this year to swap the token "happy birthday greeting" on my FB timeline, with a simple $5 or more donation. I have over 3500 friends on FB, so my $1500 goal is tiny. I would only need 8% of my current friend group to give $5 on my birthday this year to achieve this. Or, maybe you'll take it a step further than me and donate your birthday or another significant event this year? Or run a marathon, hair cut challenge... or a hundred other creative idea to engage with this atrocity unfolding on our watch. The time is NOW, lets do this!

Partners Relief and Development Australia Overseas Aid Fund
For the past 20 years Partners Relief & Development has been helping refugees from Myanmar who live along the Thai/Burma border as well as internally displaced peoples in Myanmar. Our vision is to see free, full lives for children affected by conflict and oppression. Through holistic action, we demostrate God's love to children and communities made vulnerable by conflict and oppression, and our hope is to see reconclied communities living in peace.
Our methods - sustainable development for community well-being and a nuturing environment for children,
- strengthening families and restoring communities to stop the exploitation, trafficking and oppression of children,
- emergency relief during times of acute crisis.
